FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I join a NOMO trip if I'm under 21?

Absolutely.

As long as you’re 18 or older, you’re welcome to join any NOMO trip.

Our trips are designed for everyone, including travelers under 21, so all the activities included in the trip, experiences, and destinations can be enjoyed regardless of age.

Of course, if you’re 21+, you’re free to make the most of your free time too. Whether that’s going out, visiting bars, clubs, or exploring the city on your own, you’re free to enjoy your trip your way.

2. Can I travel with my friends?

YES!

Some travelers join with their friends, others come with the people they’ve met during their J1 program, and some start the trip knowing nobody at all.

NOMO is all about sharing the journey, meeting great people, and making memories together.

If you’re booking with friends, we’ll do our best to accommodate room requests whenever possible.

The more, the merrier. 🚐✨

3. What's included in the trip price?

No surprises here.

Your trip includes private transportation throughout the entire roadtrip, accommodation, daily breakfast, guided tours in Los Angeles and San Francisco, luggage transportation, gratuities, a dedicated driver, and all activities listed as included in the itinerary.

Optional experiences, such as Disneyland and the Grand Canyon, can be added for an additional cost.

Flights, airport transfers, travel insurance, lunches, dinners, and personal expenses are NOT included.

We like to keep things simple, so you’ll always know exactly what’s included before you book.

4. How much extra money should I bring?

That really depends on your travel style.

Since accommodation, private transportation, breakfast, gratuities, and all included activities are already covered, your main expenses will be lunches, dinners, shopping, optional activities, and anything you choose to do during your free time.

Most travelers find that somewhere between $300 and $500 is enough for the week, but you can easily spend less or more depending on your plans.

We’ve designed our trips with J1 students in mind, so we’ll always try to recommend budget-friendly places to eat along the way.

The good news? Most of the big expenses are already taken care of before the trip even starts.

5. Do I have to stick to the itinerary, or can I explore on my own?

It’s completely up to you.

We provide a planned itinerary to help you make the most of the trip, but during the day you’re free to explore at your own pace and do your own thing.

Want to spend more time at the beach? Explore the city on your own? Check out a place you discovered on TikTok? Go for it.

The only thing we ask is that you respect the scheduled departure times and meeting points so the trip can stay on track for everyone.

We handle the planning and logistics, while giving you the freedom to enjoy the experience your way.

6. Where will we be staying?

We'll stay in a selection of budget-friendly hotels throughout the trip.

When choosing accommodations, we focus on what matters most: safe locations, clean rooms, included breakfast, and the amenities you need to recharge after a day on the road. Most of our hotels are 2, 3, or 4-star properties, and many of them include features such as swimming pools.

Hotel selections may vary from trip to trip depending on availability, but we'll always aim for the best balance between comfort, convenience, and value.

7. Who will I share my room with?

Rooms are typically shared between 3 to 4 travelers.

If you're booking with friends or joining as a group, we'll do our best to keep you together whenever possible.

If you're traveling solo, we'll usually arrange rooms by gender. However, room arrangements are flexible, and travelers are free to choose who they'd like to share with.

Before the trip, we'll create a WhatsApp group where everyone can get to know each other and coordinate room arrangements ahead of time.

At NOMO, we want every traveler to feel comfortable, included, and ready to make the most of the experience.

8. How many people will be on the trip?

Our trips usually have between 25 and 29 travelers.

We've found that's the perfect size to create a great group atmosphere while still keeping the experience personal and easy to manage.

It's big enough to meet new people from different places and backgrounds, but small enough that you'll quickly recognize everyone by name.

By the end of the trip, chances are you'll leave with a lot more than just photos.

9. Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, we strongly recommend having travel insurance for the duration of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in your NOMO package, so it's your responsibility to make sure you're covered before traveling.

While nobody plans for things to go wrong, having insurance can give you peace of mind in case of medical emergencies, delays, lost luggage, or other unexpected situations.

At NOMO, we recommend extending the travel insurance provided by your sponsor to cover the entire duration of your trip.

10. How do I get from the airport to the accommodation and back?

Airport transfers are not included in the trip price.

Since travelers often arrive at different times and sometimes even at different airports, the trip officially begins at the designated meeting point hotel and ends at the final hotel listed in the itinerary.

Getting to and from the hotel is usually very straightforward. We recommend using services such as Uber, Lyft, local taxis, or airport shuttles, depending on what's available at your destination.

Before the trip, we'll share recommendations and tips based on the location of the hotel to help you find the easiest and most convenient way to get there.
